Case study 1 : Prediction of proximal femur internal architecture

The outer surface of the proximal femur was extracted as .stl from a CT scan. The surface and internal volume were populated with a point cloud.
Beam elements with identical radius were defined between each point and its closest neighbours. The digitalis3d structural optimisation component coupled with Karamba finite element solver was used to optimise the beam structure to a simplified loading scenario representative of human gait.
